My baby brother got interested in Polyvore recently and saw the ad on the Polyvore homepage ticker for the JB Someday contest here on Polyvore. He decided to do a set and told me to try it out too.
 
So I checked the T&C and found out that the contest was only opened to US residents and thus rendered us illegible to enter. That said, I decided to go ahead and put together a set that I felt I would've done for the contest anyways.
 
Drawing colors from the fragrance bottle and mashing it with my own personal style, I'm quite happy with how the set turned out. Good luck to all the contestants out there!

Theme: Masquerade
 
This week's theme is pretty cool. How would you dress up for a masquerade ball?
 
At first I wanted to work my look around a pair of these gorgeous Gucci heels I saw on the Polyvore home page but once I saw this beautiful elegant ombre gown, I could help but have the look surround the dress instead.
 
I paired the gown with an intricate venetian mask, a pair of understated jewel earrings, a jewel and lattice statement cocktail ring and a pair of glittery brown heels.
 
For make up, I didn't want to much going on since the mask is already such a statement piece and decided on a black smokey eye with lush lashes paired with a light orange tone lipstick. To complete the look, I added a dark wine nail polish as well. A spritz of a sexy fragrance and we're all set.

Theme: Hippie
 
It's been awhile since my last Polly Dolly set and since this week's theme was Hippie, I almost didn't put up a set since I'm not quite familiar with the style. Anyways, I decided to play it safe with a comfortable jersey maxi dress paired with gladiator sandals and an assymetric shoulder bag. For accessories, I felt like it should be kept simple so I went for the feather braided headband and a chunky cuff bracelet.
 
As far as beauty was concern, I felt that it was best to go completely au naturel with only a moisturizing lip balm and sheer sun block. To complete the ensemble, I threw in a casual scent as well.

Too much of a single pattern can be too much in one outfit. With the week's theme, Flowers, I tried to find a way to incorporate the several floral pieces that can be worn together to complement the overall outfit.
 
Centered around a beautiful floral dress, I chose an off-white/beige floral lace crop cardigan which adds another subtle floral element. The ballet flats with a single chiffon rose in an off-white/beige color is another floral piece that does not compete with the dress. As for accessories, the earrings are floral inspired in beige neutral tones, the bangle is a flower outline and a dainty single flower pendant double strand necklace. I can see the chiffon lace headband to go well with soft waves. Since the overall outfit and accessories has been kept quite muted (with the dress being the centerpiece), I thought it would be fun to pair it with this zig zag striped cross-body bag.
 
I felt that the colors in the make up set worked well the the tones in the dress and picked out a leaf shaped mascara tube as well. Lastly, some argan oil for healthy skin and shiny hair, hot pink nails and a couple of spritzes of a floral based scent, and the look is complete.

Instead of going for a more classic look, I figured why not add a neon pop to the outfit? Since spring is all about color blocking this year, I opted for neon green patent pumps and a 3 tone neon yellow top bag. For a bit more contrast, I picked out a gorgeous dangling gradient toned crystal earring piece and a complementing cluster ring paired with a simple black & gold watch.
 
The make up is understated with a soft blush and highlight, voluminous lashes, a tint of peach on the lips and electric blue rimming the lower lashes (black on the upper lash line). To complete the look, I decided on a nude beige nail polish.

Week 48 - Red Carpet Recreation
 
I'm feeling a little under-inspired for this week's challenge but decided to give it a go anyway. I loved the bold color brought out by Jennifer Hudson in this tangerine orange Versace dress at the 2011 Oscars Red Carpet recently.
 
The dress I picked out has the same shade of orange but with an asymmetrical shoulder, criss cross bodice draping and a flowy skirt. I think the dress I chose has more of a Grecian feel to it compared to the more modern halter neck design Jennifer has on.
 
Since the dress is so bold, I decided on a very minimalist approach and went for some simple diamond stud earrings, multiple bangles of varying designs and sparkly peep toes and clutch.
 
The make up is also very elegant classy (a la Penelope Cruz) and the scent is sexy and romantic.

This week's challenge was to create a look around the maxi skirt. I picked this silk taffeta maxi skirt as my central piece and decided on a more casual look for it. I went for a simple denim vest over top a cotton floral tank top and threw in some leather accessories (bag, cuff, flip flops). I love the idea of the pop of hot pink accents to the look (bangle, lipstick) and added aviator shades to the mix for that laid back feel. I think this look is stunning with long loose curls, a hint of color on the cheeks and bronzer to contour the eyes and cheeks. Of course, don't forget some SPF.

Polly Dolly Week 44 Challenge
 
The theme is celebrity and one of my fave has to be Angelina Jolie. Here I've interpreted her casual style which is simple and comfortably laid back.
 
Her style started out as very experimental and rebellious but has now settled for a more subtle elegance. More often than not, she wows the red carpet scene with her stunning looks and effortless beauty.

Polly Dolly: Week 45 Challenge
 
I went for elegant, chic and traditional romantic for this challenge with a pink-purple palette and some black and white classics. The make up is simple and clean with eyeliner, nude gloss and pink blush for that radiant flush.

Polly Dolly's Week 46 Challenge
 
The theme was inspired by the movie Black Swan. I included some ballet inspirations but decided to take a different spin on things. The look is soft and demure but with an edge. I think the contrast between the pastel shades of pale pink and off white and the vibrant pop of color from the turquoise/teal/blue works wonderfully and hopefully captures the essence of the theme.
